Outdoor games and garden time

Children need to move. Every group spends time outdoors each day in our fenced garden, where soft play surfaces, shade and constant supervision let children take real physical risks safely.

What happens outside

  • Gross-motor play — climbing frame, balance beam, tunnels and slides
  • Ball and team games — simple, rule-light games that teach turn-taking
  • Gardening — children sow, water, weed and harvest their own beds
  • Sand and water play — pouring, digging, moulding and measuring
  • Nature observation — insects, birds, leaves and the changing weather
  • Free running — open lawn space with nothing to do but run

Why it matters

Outdoor play builds the balance, coordination and core strength that later support sitting still, holding a pencil and reading a line of text. It also does something simpler: it makes children happy, hungry and ready to rest.

Safety

The garden is fully enclosed with a single supervised gate. Equipment is inspected weekly, play surfaces are impact-absorbing, and adult-to-child ratios outdoors match those in the classroom. Sun protection and drinking water are always available.

What to send

Please send your child in clothes that can get dirty, with closed shoes they can put on themselves, and a spare set in their bag. Mud is part of the curriculum.
